About the Conference

33rd Conference of the European Cetacean Society - 5-7.4.2022

The 33rd Annual European Cetacean Society conference is the first fully virtual conference of the society!

The theme of this year's conference is: Marine mammal research and conservation effort - Are we on the right path?

The development of marine mammal research goes a long way back, but... are we headed in the right direction? Have we succeeded in our efforts to protect endangered species, biodiversity, and marine mammal habitats while maintaining the ethical treatment of animals?

Throughout this ECS conference, we will challenge the conventional approach to marine mammal science and raise critical questions on the past, present, and future to ensure that the shared goal - marine mammal conservation - is, indeed, being aptly pursued.

Final and full abstract book is now available for download here

We are excited for you to join us!

As you are all aware- this is the ECS’s first virtual conference, and we are sure that it will be a learning curve for all of us so here is an explenation about how the presentation sessions will be conducted:

The chairperson and presenters of each session will connect via a zoom link. All other attendees will view the session through the virtual platform. We ask that anyone logged in the zoom link, close their viewing session on the platform so we don’t encounter any static noise or feedback.
The attendees can write their questions in the “Q&A box” and the chairperson moderating the session will choose which questions will be addressed to the presenter in real time.
One great advantage of the virtual platform is that you will all have the option of messaging the presenter after the session to follow up on any missed questions.
All presentations have a pre-recorded version, and therefore, if the live speaker does not present themselves within 1 minute of the presentation starting time, we will go ahead and play their recording.

We will be available throughout the entire conference to assist you with any issues that arise but we do ask that you first check your internet connectivity, browser and computer before mailing us with viewing issues throughout the presentation sessions.
If non of the above work email us to [email protected]

Please keep up with real time updates by following our facebook page and checking the “message board” on the conference’s virtual platform!
